Well here it is – my first ever blog post. Don’t know why I’m doing this really, it’s just that lately I seem to be strangely drawn to all things Net-ish. So I’ve got the MySpace page (never really bother with it – too much like hard work), tend to use Facebook more (MySpace for lazy people) – I irregularly waste hours watching vids on You Tube and Current, and whenever I am at home my laptop is on, connected to the internet through WiFi, just in case someone might want to say “Hi” on msn or Yahoo messenger.
I listen to lots of internet radio (and podcasts on my MP3 player), and watch various vidcasts – so I suppose you could say I’m a fully paid up member of the e-generation (which isn’t defined by age by the way – just by electronic connectedness). I even tried to get a “Second Life,” to compensate for the fact that I don’t have a first one. Unfortunately my plans for my Second life aspirations were thwarted due to the fact that I made the mistake of buying a new laptop that runs Vista – and Second Life is one of the many things that doesn’t yet support Vista! And it’s full of bugs (Vista that is – not Second life – I wouldn’t know about that, obviously!!!) Thank you Mr. Billionaire Gates! You’d think that someone with so much money might one day be capable of coming up with a product that actually works properly! Still we put up with it don’t we – what choice do we have?
For all of the hassle, frustration and downright rage it causes us though – I’ve gotta admit I do really love this techno-ed up, wired world we live in, and how many of us would like to seriously contemplate our lives without our PC’s, mobile phones and myriad other digi-gadgets?
So, now I’ve tried to justify my reasons for starting this blog, and tried to re-assure myself that it’s not just gonna be a mawkish self indulgent load of drivel (which it probably will be at times – someone please e-slap me back to sense, whenever it crosses that line) – I suppose I should say what it’s gonna be about. Well I don’t intend it to be about anything in particular really – other than living in these strange ever more rapidly changing times in which we find ourselves.
We live in a more connected and vastly better informed society than ever before – yet we’ve perhaps at no time, ever before – felt so confused and dis-connected. We perhaps have never spent so much time – nor been so wrapped up and immersed – in our own individual, inner worlds. And yet at all times we need to remember that – ‘No Man Is An Island.’ That’s what this drivel is going to be about. Don’t quite know what that means yet really. Let’s hope we’ll find out.
